The Voiron area lies in the foothills of the Chartreuse.

The area is famous for the archaeological excavations at Lake Paladru and for the Chartreuse Distillery, where the famous Carthusian monks' liqueur is still produced to this day.
Charavines
The town of Charavines is located on the shores of Lake Paladru and is home to a museum recounting daily life in the neolithic period and the Middle Ages as depicted by the archaeological excavations at the lake.

Voiron

Worth seeing
Paladru lake
France's fifth largest natural lake with a surface area of 400 ha, it owes its international reputation to the major archaeological finds that have been discovered on the site.
It is also a popular summer haunt for water-sports fans and bathers.

Château de Virieu
This chateau was built in the 11th century to defend the Bourbre valley and has undergone a number of architectural alterations.
Louis XIII stayed in this chateau in 1622; the room in which he slept is now a highlight of the visit.
